The Fruit of the Spirit: Forbearance

The Holy Spirit helps you refrain from sinning. The Bible states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). Therefore, when you are born-again, you can be patient with others and refrain from sinning.

So, when other people see you, can they see a patient person filled with forbearance. Are you tolerant with others and filled with patience, compassion, and love for them? The Bible states that love, “…always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:7-8). Therefore, as Christians we should persevere with others. When someone else feels irritated we should have forbearance and refrain from becoming irritated ourselves.

The Bible states, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13). So, be quick to forgive and refrain yourself from sinning with others. Jesus died on the cross, paid for our sins, and showed love toward us, so we may be called children of God. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 8:5). So, forgive others now and let go of the past hurt, pain, and irritation, they have caused you. “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love” (Ephesians 4:2).

Prayer

Jesus, I pray that everyone who reads this devotional has forbearance. Help them bear with others and forgive them, just like you forgave us. In Colossians 3:13 it states, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” So, help each one of us forgive and love others. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:7-8). In Jesus Mighty Holy name I pray, Amen. “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).
